May 2013

Karina Taylor, the former Archivist at the Pacific Research Archives, Australian National University, sadly passed away unexpectedly at Wellington Hospital, NZ on 24 May 2013. She had worked as the Pacific Research Archivist at the Australian National University since its inception in February 2007 and recently returned home to work in Arrangement and Description at the Alexander Turnbull Library in Wellington, New Zealand.

World Book Day – Fijian outreach in rural Tailevu

The National Archives of Fiji (NAF) was kindly invited by our sister Department – the Library Services of Fiji (LSF) to join them in celebrating World Book Day (March 1st) in rural Tailevu, with the prospect of putting up archival displays and sharing historical information with schools and communities who do not have ready access to NAF.

The PARBICA family was reunited for PARBICA 14: Evidence and Memory in a Digital Age. Over 100 attendees from 18 countries met for a week of presentations, discussions and workshops, which addressed some of the challenges and risks related to managing information in a digital age.

PARBICA Toolkit training in Tonga

Between 24 and 27 May, PARBICA Treasurer Helen Walker, Emma Buckley (Assistant to the PARBICA Treasurer), and Anna Gulbransen (Assistant to the PARBICA Secretary-General) met with representatives of the Government of Tonga to deliver messages on the benefits of good recordkeeping.
